nothing to treasure from geithner
Well if there were any doubt how the markets reacted to Secretary Geithner’s speech – hyped up numerous times last night by President Obama – just turn on CNBC. In a new poll, 65% do not believe Geithner’s plan will work. And the Dow is tanking.
Why did the Secretary make a speech when he had so little to say?
One could ask the same of our President, who last night was long on eloquence and short on specifics. Business likes specifics and so do ordinary Americans like me.
Wall Street is now frighteningly in synch with Main Street in its opposition to the government’s stimulus plan. For weeks Americans urged their leaders to send the proposed bill to the fat farm. Instead it landed on Canyon Ranch.
The Commander-in-Chief is now sauntering on stage in sunny Florida, clearly relishing his former role as Campaigner-in-Chief. (Is this the Dems’ version of swagger?) As a citizen, I don’t want my President in a Townhall meeting today. I want him back in Washington working 15-hour days solving this crisis.
Geithner’s confidence-busting speech, along with President Obama’s cozily-staged Townhall are just more examples of an Administration (and former campaign) more consumed by style
than substance.

No MORE speaky, Mr. Sec– your bank test speech caused enough stress! Good lord. 7888.88… well perhaps the Asian markets will consider that number lucky with all those eights… but I’m thinking most folks aren’t feeling so lucky right now.
And please don’t send us any of those dumb pajama grams either (unless of course you’re sending one from la perla).

Zactly. Well, if all you’ve ever done in the past 2 years is fly on jets, have a host of bodyguards running interference for ya and the big moment is entering a room, leaving a room or waving from the step truck of an airplane…..

What a mess. What happened to “change”? Obama is not only a hypocrit, but he is an awful leader who has made something bad, worse. He should have proffered a bill with spending to get people back to work, refusing to add pork. Instead, he – a dirty politician – allowed politics to rule and now his cover is blown.
Too late for us, thanks to the media’s failure to vett this man.

I enjoyed your post, although I know nothing about finances, but I do know stupid when I see it and think this whole stimulus sham is just that.
I totally agree with you on Obama’s swagger. That guy can strut sitting down. And yes, he should be in D.C…..ya know, like, at the office? where all responsible executives should be? Jeeze.
And by the way, I thought it was shocking that in his first press conference, Obama acted like Biden was a joke. I thought the dim-ocrats scoffed that Sarah Palin could not possibly be VP because she lacked “gravitas”. Well, if they define “gravitas” as “being goofy”, as Obama seems to be doing, then they have (had) a point.

Nothing substantive changed between the campaign and now. BO is still an inexperienced, Chicago thug, and that is what will be running the government. Pelosi and Reid are still what they were, power hungry, self-absorbed very limited politicos, who have extemely limited vision.
The really scary part is not even what they are doing with our financial future. The scary part is how they intend to continue the power grab into the future. When we didn’t stop ACORN, they knew they had won the battle. They are planning to move control of the census into the White House. That will leave census figures in the control of BO and Rahm Emanuel. It doesn’t take much to imagine what they can do with that… redraw congressional districts, change monetary payouts as rewards, stack voter rolls. The problem is,,,there is no good reason for doing it. So, why?
I ;am not a conspiracy nut, but after watching what they did in the primaries and general election last year, it is hard to put anything past them.
By the way, it might not hurt for people to sign up for e-mail updates from Sarahpac, if we are serious about supporting strong, intelligent women in politics.
Good to have all of you back, you were sorely missed.

Re: Dick Morris. Meh. I never take too much stock in what the toe-sucker has to say.
Did anyone see this guy from today’s town hall?:
WTF with the “praise-be-obama’ attitude? He’s a second semester college student complaining about not finding a better job like he’s a engineering grad. And what benefits does he expect from working at McDonalds? A gold watch? Jeez.
Great to see hh back on the blogosphere where it belongs. You all look fabulous! (Sista, I was so hoping for a fashion review of Michelle at the inauguration.)

boogieman—-yes, I too, wondered if that whole thing was staged. It was like a bit that David letterman used to do with Chris Elliott, remember….Chris would pretend to be some random guy in the audience?

townhall meetings are just blatant photo opps of the obama connecting with the little people – you’re right, he should be rolling up his sleeves (like hillary is at the state dept)….not jetting around wasting taxpayer money…
how much do you think these town hall meetings cost (fuel, staging, staff, etc…?)
on February 11th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

if this has already been mentioned, forgive me; but if not, it may or may not surprise you to know that there are no female senators or female representatives on the stimulus bill conference committee.
There’s a great article from Jill Miller Zimon over at “the Moderate voice” about this.
Unbelievable, but not really.
